A 7-day challenge: no porn, no masturbation

Stop giving away your evenings.

Show that you are the one in charge of your urges — not the other way round. The Stoics called that the only thing that is truly yours; Marcus Aurelius wrote about it in notes meant for himself alone. Seven days without porn or masturbation, and one question every evening: did it happen or not.

Drawing: a young man stands with his hands in his pockets, looking calmly ahead. At his feet, no higher than his knee, a small yellow creature — a tangled ball of line with big eyes and a wide-open mouth — jumps up and shouts at him. He is not even looking at it.

What this actually is

HardModeChallenge is a closed challenge for a few friends. You agree that for seven days none of you watches porn or masturbates. Every evening each of you answers one question: did it happen or not. The rest of the group sees the day count and whether you answered today — never how it went, and never what you wrote.

Drawing: a man sits on a couch in a dark room, leaning forward, holding a phone in both hands. The screen lights his face and is completely blank. On the cushion beside him the yellow tangled creature sits with its mouth wide open, leaning towards the phone. Behind them a dark window with a night sky.
What that evening looks like nowEleven at night, the room dark, the phone lighting up your face. Nobody sees it and nobody will ask about it tomorrow — which is why tomorrow looks the same.
Drawing: the same room with a lamp on. The phone lies face down on a table in the foreground. The man, halfway into a jacket, walks towards an open door where two friends are waiting. He is not looking back. Beside the phone the yellow tangled creature is shouting after him, and nobody is looking at it.
What it looks like with the dealThe phone is face down, because what you do instead is already written down. In the evening you answer one question and that is it. Two people can see that you answered.
25sources
Every one opened in full, never from the abstract. Without a checked-on date, a script keeps the source off the site.
0payments in the app
If you agreed on a stake, you settle it between yourselves. The app never touches money, and never will.
2021year of retraction
The year the testosterone study was retracted. NoFap pages and videos still quote it.

Get your crew

Your evening is yours to decide, not the urge's. It goes easier when two people can see you are in the middle of it. The board shows them a nickname, the day of the challenge and whether you answered today. Nothing about how it went. Nothing from your history. Nothing about slips.

What it is for

This is not about doing it now and then. It is about one evening after another going to porn. The question is not “how many days can you hold out”, it is “what do you want that time for”.

Drawing: a man with a bag over his shoulder walks out through an open door into bright daylight, where two friends are waiting for him. He does not look back. In the empty hallway behind him the yellow tangled creature is shouting at the closing door.

People who are counting on you

Family, a partner, the friends you meant to text back. You spend tonight with them or with your phone. Not both.

Something above you

If you have faith, or any purpose bigger than yourself, then you have an answer to “what for” at two in the morning. You do not need one to be here. And if you have one, nobody here will ask you to justify it.

Your word

You told somebody you were doing this. Saying it on Sunday is easy. Wednesday at eleven at night is the hard part — and that is what the challenge is for.

How it works

Three steps and one question a day. Nothing else is asked of you.

  1. Drawing: a man sits at a table drawing a grid of empty squares on a large sheet of paper with a thick marker. The yellow tangled creature has perched on the corner of the table and is watching him with its mouth shut for once.
    01

    You start a challenge

A name, a length, how often you check in. You can agree on a stake, but you settle it between yourselves.

  2. Drawing: a man holds out his phone to two friends who are reaching to take it. Below them the yellow tangled creature jumps up trying to reach the phone and misses by a long way.
    02

    You send a link

To a few people you already know. Anyone without the link cannot even see that the challenge exists.

  3. Drawing: a man kneels in front of a large grid and fills in one square with a thick marker. Some squares are already yellow, the rest are still empty outlines. The yellow tangled creature sits by his knee.
    03

    You answer once a day

One question: was there porn or masturbation today, or not. The crew sees a nickname, the day count and whether you answered today. Nothing else.

The seven deadly sins, honestly

The classical list has seven entries. At eleven at night, with a phone in your hand, three of them are usually in play. And despite the name, the list does not say who you are. It says what you are up against.

Drawing: three identical yellow tangled creatures side by side. The first lies on its side, fast asleep. The second is shouting with its mouth wide open. The third has its chin raised and is looking smugly away from the other two.
  1. 01SlothWins most often. You cannot be bothered to get up and do anything else. That is why a plan names what you do instead — not what you do not do.
  2. 02LustThe one that brought you here. It rarely arrives alone — it usually brings the other two.
  3. 03PrideThe belief that you can do this alone and owe nobody an explanation. The internet calls this being a sigma. At eleven at night, a sigma with no plan and no witnesses is exactly like everybody else — which is why this challenge has witnesses.

The other four — greed, envy, gluttony and wrath — are usually asleep at eleven. They come back in the morning, but this site will not help you with those.

What this is built on

Friends, not strangers

Of everything tested in this category, one thing has the strongest evidence behind it: support from people you already know. A friend beats a forum moderator, and beats a coach you pay.

Honest numbers

The testosterone study this whole scene rests on was retracted in 2021. We say so plainly and link the source. Nobody here is promising you superpowers, because there are none.

A slip is not the end

Nothing disappears from your history and nobody here judges you. If you are in a bad place, you get numbers you can call right now.

The questions that come up most

What exactly is this challenge?
Seven days without porn and without masturbation, done together with a few friends. Every evening each of you answers one question: did it happen or not. The group sees the day count and whether you answered today. There is no forum, no public profile and no payments of any kind.
How do you stop masturbating?
Not by resolve alone. Three things have research behind them: write down in advance what you will do instead in a specific situation; record each day how it went; and have people you already know alongside you. This site does exactly those three things and nothing more.
Is willpower alone enough?
Rarely, and not because you are weak. The decision lands at the worst possible time: eleven at night, phone already in your hand. So you write the plan earlier, calmly. Then you do not have to win anything — you just do what you already decided.
How many days do you have to hold out?
No study sets a threshold. Seven is what we suggest by default, because it is the length most people actually finish — and a first challenge is meant to end, not to be dropped halfway. Fourteen, thirty and ninety are one tap away. There is a separate article about this.
Does NoFap raise testosterone?
The study this whole community cites was retracted in 2021. The publisher still serves it without a notice. It is the one figure on this subject worth knowing by heart.
Is masturbation a sin?
That is not a question for this site, and we are not going to settle it for you. One thing is worth knowing: the ICD-11 classification deliberately refuses a diagnosis when the only problem is guilt about your own beliefs. The distress is real, but on its own it does not make this a disorder. If your reason is faith, there is room for it here.
Is this a service for believers?
Not only. If your reason is faith, there is room for it here and nobody will lecture you about it. If your reason is family, fitness or plain quiet — it works the same. The Stoics at the top of the page are not a requirement either, just one way of naming the same thing. The service never asks about religion and never stores it.
What will my friends see?
A nickname, the day of the challenge, and whether you answered today. Nothing about how it went, nothing from the history and nothing from your notes. The one exception is a support request, which only you can press.

What you get

An account, a challenge with friends, one question a day, if-then plans, the screen after a slip, a button for the worst moment and a map of the evenings that are hardest. All of it works today, not on a roadmap.
